Only one 81 vette was ever made in this color ive done a little research trying to track this car down(expecting it to be in some car museum or something) with no luck
that looks like it but the lighting makes it look washed out. I was on the verge of painting my car that color for the same reason but found something I like better. I've got a picture of that blue on an '81 that I was going to use as a guide for mine before I changed my mind.

Here's the only picture of the lone Bright Blue Metallic 81, that I know of.
This is the cover of the December/January 1981 issue of Corvette News. On the magazine's title page, it says "81 prototype (This is color is not available on production models)".
Chevrolet cancelled the color before 81 production began, and was replaced with Mahogany Metallic. The Bright Blue car had to be a Pilot Line car, and was likely destroyed (the fate of most pilot line cars), used for testing, went into the press pool, or who knows. It might even be in the GM Heritage Collection.
I don't believe the car was ever released to the public.

mjs-13,
If you really found this one off car after all this time that would be pretty interesting. But I think you'll need to post a picture of the trim tag here to confirm your find.
Cheers, Greg
