I'm running a Tach Drive HEI Distributor in my '73, in Lar's timing info page, he specifies removal of one of the springs in a Points Distributor to set timing, is this necessary with an HEI distributor as well? (36degrees Total Etc.)
Secondly, what Recurve kit's do you folks recommend.
Yes it is necessary. The whole point is that you can set the total timing at a lower RPM with one as opposed to two. The Mr. Gasket for HEI is the one recommended by Lars, it's not mentioned in the paper you have?
I saw the MR. Gasket stuff, but it didn't mention removing a weight on a HEI distributor, just points.

Actually, my paper specifically states to not remove a spring on HEI - removing a spring on HEI will change the length of the curve and produce a faulty total timing indication. The paper only recommends removing a spring on the points-type distributors, if you have the stock, heavy, factory springs installed. Removing a spring on the points-type distributor will not change the length of the timing curve, and it will allow you to set the total timing at a lower, safer rpm.
