Default Help fitting urethane bumper on a 1979

I posted this in the body and paint section but thought there maybe more people viewing this section that could help:

Purchased a GM Restoration Ecklers Rear urethane bumper. Cannot get the bumper to fit. It measures about 1 inch wider than my original bumper and about 3/4 inch shorter. In order to make it work
would have to squeeze the bumper hard to get it to compress in width
and expand in height.

I have previously purchased both a front and rear Ecklers 1980 GM restoration bumpers and they fit well.

As far as I can determine the car has not had any rear end body repairs and the original bumper has a build tag of 1979 so is original to the car.

Anyone have experiences with the 1976-79 GM restoration urethane bumper? This one is molded in black urethane. I have since returned the first one and wasted over $100 in the initial plus the return
shipping so am reluctant to order another one and would like some feedback from anyone that used the same bumper.

Sounds like a lot to make up. I know the original rubber bumpers often shrink with age and become a problem to re-attach once removed. One body shop I know of used to heat up the rubber bumper to gain maximum flexibility and then put it on as quickly as possible. I'm not sure how they heated it, maybe just laying it in the sun on a hot day (a tub of very hot water?).
