Default cam issues and advice needed.

Had a lifter noise and I needed to replace the radiator so I thought I would pull the heads clean them up and see what is to be seen inside. I found a broken lifter and 2 more that had started coming apart, the clips that hold them together was gone. So now along with a new alternator, water pump, radiator, and some hoses I need a cam and lifters. this is not a hot rod nor do I want issues using the vacuum headlights. I drive this a lot.... like every day.
the motor as I know is stock, but there is a chrome timing cover so someone has been in that far. the heads and exhaust manifolds are stock. I was given a aluminum intake, edelbrock performer and a holly 650 for free. I have been doing research on cams and found a lot of info, like so much my head is spinning. but I think this is the cam for me? http://www.compperformancegroupstore...ory_Code=HFTXE

Yes, that cam sounds like a good match for your usage. I've used the Summit K1103 in the past with very good results. It's a very mild cam with a nice midrange. It will idle at 600 rpm if you want.

I installed it in a Camaro w/ 350 all the way back in 1990. My Dad has the car now, still with the same cam 23 years later.

I've read more that once that GM used steel .018 shim gaskets from the factory on these older blocks...
