Default Block codes?

I just bought a 1968 conv. The engine is not correct, VO281DS so it looks like it's a 307 ? Anyway, found a 327 with cast# 3914660. We should be good. The remainder is VIN 18S174935 and code # T013HJ.
Any help would be great.

What are you asking? 18S174935 is not a corrrect VIN derivitive for a 68.

3914678 is the correct casting number for 68 327 blocks.

T013HJ is not complete and need another character for the assembly date.

HJ was last used in a Corvette in 1965 (327/300) but with a different casting number.

Unless you are concerned with having the car judged, just about any smallblock would work for you.

Good luck.

As Mike said, you're missing a number in the suffix code for the date, but HJ for 1968 was a 327/250 out of a full size car. The partial VIN (18S174935) confirms that it came out of a 1968 full size car assembled at the St Louis, MO plant.

And again, like Mike said, it all depends on what your intentions are. You'll never be "numbers matching" since the original block is gone, but you can go "date correct" if it works for your VIN. What's your VIN and what's the rest of the date code in the suffix?

Not forgetting that the T in T013HJ means that the engine was assembled in the Tonawanda NY engine plant, which never assembled Corvette small block engines.

They assembled Impalas at St. Louis. I forgot about that.

Thank you guys.
I just wanted to get a 327 back into her. She is my bum around the beach car. Not a Bloomington winner.
