Have a 81 and need an a/c evaporator and going to replace the receiver drier while I am in there. Will also need a box since it blew a hole in it. Might be able to fix it with some fiberglass though. Where is a good place to get this???????? Have had some bad dealings with eckler's , but would buy there if I need too. Any suggestions!!! Thanks, namvet

I put a hole in my early 77's engine compartment box. I repaired it with resin and cloth which seemed to do the job. I have since replaced the entire system with a Vintage Air system (see my write-up on changes necessary to adapt VA kit to a 77). When I took the box out, I found that the repair I had made had very limited adhesion to the material the box was made of. I was able to push/peel the entire repair away from the box.

I used polyester resin. You might have better luck with epoxy, but do some tests before you put too much work into repairing it.

If your pulling the box to replace the evaporator you can easily patch the box while its out. I would also take the opportunity to paint on some insulation on the inside of the box, Lizard Skin or the like. That will limit the amount of engine compartment heat that goes through the box.
A quick google search turned up Rock Auto, they advertise an evap for $235, don't know if that's a good price or not. If your not close enough to Ecklers to go I wouldn't bother with them. It took them 2 months to get my drier to me.
