Default Hotter plug?

My smallblock runs good but on the rich side. Would running a hotter plug burn up some of the excess gas that seems to turn my plugs black?
Thanks, telk.

Maybe but you also risk higher engine temps. probably should look at jetting/metering rods to get you in the right zone. Also make sure the timing is optimum.

I've experienced the same problem with this "new" gas. After experimenting with different plugs, timing settings etc. I've come to the conclusion that setting my plugs .010" over works best. The larger gap seems to make the car run like it did in the old days and with no ill effects. You could give it a try and see if you notice any change. It worked for me and that's all I can say.

Assuming that you aren't already running as hot a plug as is safe, you would probably see some improvement but, as Subboz already posted, if you're running rich it would make more sense to correct that problem instead of trying to compensate for it. As Fontking suggested, a wider gap might help also if your ignition is up to it.
