No key start, but remote starter works
My 77 will not start from the key switch. All the electrical stuff works otherwise. Bubba put a remote start button under the dash and i really want to get it back to starting from the ignition switch. Where to start?

My wifes 77 had an aftermarket security system, probably installed shortly after new, that would use a key inside near the hood release handle. It would lock the hood latch from opening and also interrupt the start circuit. The installer had tapped into the purple wire in the engine compartment that goes to the starter solenoid. I took it all out and repaired the poor wiring job.

On that neutral safety switch there will be a purple wire and a purple with a white stripe. I believe it is the purple/white that comes from the ignition switch. If you have power there when you turn the key to "start" then your ignition switch is good. Then you can jumper the purple and purple/white wires and try to start using the key again. If it starts then the neutral safety switch is bad.
