After sitting for at least 3 years maybe more I took my 78 out came home in the dark ,lights would not come up unless I
pulled the bypass **** under dash checked it out today can't locate any leaks , they worked fine last time I used them l am puzzled

I believe the headlight switch turns the lights on, but ALSO sends a vacuum signal to open the lights. Since the over-ride is opening the lights that indicates a problem with the headlight switch.
I'd look there first.

I'll check that, I had no lights inside the dash untill I kept rotating the **** for quite a while then they came on so I could have a switch problem , possibly corroded from sitting
