Default heat riser
do I really need the heat riser on my 81? riser is good but vacuum part is bad. don't think I can just buy the vacuum part.

Only if you are planning to drive it in below-freezing weather. Otherwise, just disconnect it. But, make certain that the valve always remains in the "open" position (or remove the valve completely).

IMHO, only lose the heat riser if you have an aluminum intake manifold. An iron one will take too long to warm up.
