Default Some help on engine upgrade.

I have a stock '75 L48 At with the 3.08 rear end, now the stock 165Hp is kind of on the low side and am looking at things to change to get some more power, the engine runs smooth but low on power.

I am looking of getting the Trick flow top end kit TFS-K314-350-400

Now the question is will this kit fit my engine and get these numbers ?
Also they state a compression of 9.5:1 to 10.0:1 will I get this also? as my standard L48 only has 8.5:1
And can I install this kit without pulling the engine ?

Or will I need to pull my engine and do a rebuild before installing this kit ?

Thanks

You can install the kit with the engine in the car.. you need to remove the radiator to get the cam out.... the smaller combustion chambers in the heads will raise the compression.... as long as the rings are in good shape and you have no problems now you can install without rebuilding. If the engine has high mileage I've read the additional compression can cause ring failure but not sure how true that is. Keep in mind the only real difference between the 195hp 74 l48 and your is the restrictive exhaust and old style cat.... replace that with headers and better flowing exhaust and you should see a 50-60hp gain.

You could do a leakdown test to help get a feel for what shape the rings are in. The tell will be when you pull the heads and look at the cylinders

That all depends on what inserts you have. Some of them are very restrictive.
