My gas gauge is not accurately registering the correct fuel level. I recently completed a frame-off restoration so the sender and wiring are new but the gauge is original (it worked prior to the restoration). What is the most-likely cause? How can I diagnose the issue?
Hi r,
The Willcox site (listed on the left side of this page) has a section for installation and trouble shooting help.
There's a listing for testing the gas gauge and sending unit to determine what the problem may be.
You might want to read over that information.
Since your car has been apart might it be a grounding problem at the gauge or sending unit?
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan
How about some pictures of your 72 (after you get your gauge problem settled)?
Thanks for the referenced information. Here's what I found. My sending unit is putting out about 30 Ohms when the tank is 1/2 full so it appears to be about 15 ohms low (90 ohms is full so 45 ohms is 1/2 tank).
