I wasn't aware there were speakers in the 72 door panels? I know my 74 doesn't have them.... there are some 4x6 speakers in the kick panels and the same in the dash pad but no factory rears in mine .... the ones in the dash pad supply the best position to actually hear them as well as an aftermarket sound bar someone added to the rear... the ones under the dash in the kick panels actually seem to be the most obstructed.... putting speakers in the door of my 74 would not be easy.... there is no opening behind the door panel and the metal would have to be cut in a place were the speaker wouldn't interfere with anything else...

As you can see it's pretty much a solid piece behind the panel.

You can go to the trouble of putting speakers in the lower-front area of the door panels; but you will have to butcher your door panels and cut on the inner door surface, plus run wiring into the door.

It is MUCH easier to put speakers into [or behind] the kickpanel pieces just in front of that area. The '68 & '69 cars had speakers in those kickpanel areas (4" x 10") and they worked pretty well there...especially for mid/bass frequencies. Don't waste your time putting tweeters down there. High frequencies won't propagate from a "remote" speaker area; they need to be directed at the listener. That's why the dash speakers are located where they are--the sound reflects off the [hard] windshield and on to the listeners.

Keeping the dash speakers (and replacing them with much better mid/tweeter units) AND adding the kickpanel speakers does a good job of sound reproduction in the C3 cabin. Just wire the speakers on each side as needed to match the output impedence of your amp.
