Another question for stereo gurus-head unit keeps resetting
Problem: ONLY while driving, the music suddenly stops and my head unit starts to 'search' for a input source, and then the song picks up where it left off. This usually happens after Ive been hogging on the throttle and driving hard. Once I slow down and drive reasonably, this erratic behavior seems to stop. Im running an ipod to the head unit, and it acts this way with both USB and an accessory cable. Power for the head unit is drawn from the fuse panel. Im running a smaller than preferred battery (685CCA IIRC) due to space considerations.
Question: could this be due to a power draw issue? Im running a MSD ignition system and Im wondering that under heavy load could it be robbing power from the head unit? I hate to think its something as simple as a ground.
You could try putting a capacitor right across the head unit to fill in for these momentary draws. If you find that it is still doing it because it is also now drawing current away from the capacitor, you can use add a series diode to keep this from happening.
And of course your erratic driving may be shaking a loose wire or connection creating the problem.
