Default '72 LT-1 question

Hi all . Does anyone know the serial # of the first LT-1 built in '72 ? Mine is 1Z37L2S500091 , and I was wondering how close this was to the first one of '72 . Thanks , Geo

Finally someone who is before mine. Mine is #186. Built the 2nd week of August 71. I might still have the earliest 72 LT1 convertible. I look at all 72 LT1 ser #s just to see if any are earlier. If your is still original you should find some 71 parts on it

Thanks for the reply . What are some of the '71 parts that I should look for ? This vette appears very original w/62K miles and everything matching . By the way , it is breaking up at about 5,500 rpm (used to go to 6,500 no problem) , any ideas ? Thanks , Geo

Geopar, you are close to me (geographically, that is... :D).

My '72 LT-1 vert is rather late, and approx. halfway through the VIN number range (#13,943). Unfortunately I have never located any facts on your specific question. Some day, I would love to verify 100% that mine is indeed the only '72 targa/saddle LT-1 vert (color-trim override). A fellow forum member ironically has a '72 with targa/saddle color trim override, but his is an LS-5 coupe.

Good luck. Let me know if you're ever on my side of town.

Hi Shark Attack . Thanks for post and invite . What part of Houston are you in ? Larry (Forum member who manages the '71 registry provided me with link to a LT-1 site (www.lt-1registry.com). There is a 00085 listed there so mine is not the first . Maybe you can get more info there . Verts. ( I own a couple---not LT-1's) are cool , and I wish mine was one , but with the rear window out and the tops off , I feel like I'm in a vert. when driving . Mine is having a little trouble reaching the power curve (starts to break up at 5,500 rpm---used to go to 6,500 no problem ) Any ideas ? Geo

Off the top of my head my door panels were dated around May of 71 and the wiring harness in 72 I think was supposed to have a seat belt warning of some such. Mine has a 71 interior wiring harness. There are some others I just can't remember. Check the points if you are still using them and make sure they are good and not bouncing. Is the car missing or just seem to lose power above 5500. Mine pulls past 7000 but that is where the rev limiter kicks in. Mine is not stock anymore. Might also be weak valve springs.

Yeah , points and valve springs , the usual suspects . I was wondering if my dist. needs calibrating or if the carb was not performing ? I was thinking of putting my '71 T.I. set up in to see if that would help . ?? Maybe I should contact Lars ! Thanks , Geo
