Hey All,
Well, clutch and console problem handled, now on to the brakes!! While underneath the car working on the clutch I noticed the left rear inside wheel/tire had a "spray" from the inside out. Now, on cars in my past that meant that I needed to replaced the wheel cylinder. I stopped by les schwab and they said I would have to replace the rotor because they are disc brakes on the rear, and that they "les schwab" would only replace both sides at around $400 total. Any suggestions folks? I thought about going to Napa after pulling the rear wheel off and confirming what the actual problem is. JB
Unless the rotors are worn, you probably just have a leaking caliper
piston ring. On calipers, you have 4 pistons on each caliper. 2 inside
and 2 outside. You can either replace the calipers or rebuild them.
I rebuilt mine and replaced the lip seals with the o-rings.
Hey Donnie, Thanks alot for this help!!! Do you mind my asking how much it cost to rebuild your calipers and where did you get your rebuild kit from?? Thanks man!!! JB
I got the o-ring conversion kit from Vette Brakes & Products.
They were running a special and mine cost $140.34 for all
4 calipers. http://www.vbandp.com/auto-parts.htm...nversion%20kit
In order to use this, you need to have your caliper cylinders
stainless steel lined. Mine were already. If you have had any
brake work in the past, yours may be already lined.
You can just replace the original lip seal instead of the o-ring
without lining the cylinders.
They have both complete calipers for sale if you don't want to
to do them yourself.
Hope this helps you.
