1973 Antenna Mounting Question

1973 Antenna Mounting Question
I thought that I had removed all the chrome pieces from the old 1973 for painting. I inadvertently left the fixed antenna in place. The paint shop removed the nut bezel and gasket and allowed the antenna to drop inside the fender and also lost the components. The paint job was fantastic and reasonably priced. So, I ordered the antenna mount kit for a 1973 gasket bezel and nut for a 1973 (only $12). The nut that I received has what looks to be a 3/4" x 24 thread. My antenna body has what looks like a 9/16" x 24 thread. I am trying to figure out if I am missing an intermediate nut that goes between the antenna body and the antenna nut or if I somehow have a 1968 antenna body. The 1968 antenna body appears to have a 9/16" x 24 thread. Any ideas? Thanks.

The 73 antenna cable, has the antenna body as part of the antenna, as a complete one piece assembly. On the 68 antenna, the cable is separate from the antenna body. You can unscrew the cable, from the antenna body, on the 68 antenna, you can't on a 73.
The 68 antenna uses the same nut and bezel, as the 65-67 Corvette, while the 73 shares it's nut and bezel with 69-77's.
Check to see if the antenna body you have, is part of the antenna cable. I did have pictures, of the various pieces that make up a 69-79 antenna, in my Photobucket account, but I must have deleted them. I'll check tomorrow to see if I still have the pictures, on an SD card. In the mean time, a picture of your antenna cable and body, may help identify, what you have.

Here is the 73 antenna cable. You can see that the large mounting
nut goes on the large threads on the cable body and the antenna mast itself goes on the
smaller one.

The cable appears non-removable from the antenna body. As I described previously the body appears to be 9/16" diameter and the recently purchased 1973 nut appears to be 3/4". There appears to be something missing. It is entirely possible that a previous owner installed something from another vehicle or an aftermarket source. Perhaps the best solution is to get a new 'correct' antenna or antenna and antenna body.
