Default My l48 build thread

Well im starting over my build with my new corvette i get hopefully monday shipped to me from St. Louis

I already have:

2101 performer intake
timing chain
recurve kit
lunati voodoo cam 262/268
lifters
felpro gasket kit
new rocker arms

so basically all I need now is my heads. This is where you guys come in.

What would be the best combo with my current gear to get hopefully 350hp or 300hp. As in what aluminum 64cc heads would do it.

Elderbrock E Street heads?

Check out Pro-filer heads. Do not confuse them with the controversial pro-comp heads. They are not the most well known, but very high quality, great price, and are suppose to rival AFR's, some claim even better.

Can someone explain valve angle? As in they have 23, 13, 12 angles. Am I limited to a certain angle and which is better?

Also do I use straight or angled spark plugs?

And what intake valve size should best suit me.

I chose the 23 angle with 180cc intake and 64cc chambers.

You're building your engine backwards, dude! You're supposed to pick out your heads, and then pick the rest of your parts to match them. But, it's too late now, so you have to do it the other way around. I think things will still work out for you, though. A 23 degree, 64 cc combustion chamber, 180 cc intake port head with 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves should be fine for your build, and are pretty commonplace. Also, go with the straight plugs. Are you going to use the Felpro 1094 head gasket?

Jeg's has some good deals... they have aluminum "pro maxx" vortc style heads loaded with 2.02 1.60 valves for like 860 a pair.

2101 intake will not go with vortec. And, from my research, there is not a vortec intake that will fit under C3 corvette hood with stock air cleaner assembly.

You might want to look at the Brodix IK180 heads as well. Also, if using the stock pistons, look at the Felpro FPP-1094 head gasket that has .015 compressed thickness . . . will bump the compression up a little. I saw you said you already bought Felpro but wasn't sure which ones.

If you are going to put headers on you will probably want angled spark plugs!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/fel-ks2600/overview/

I have this

So for the heads im looking for 23angle, 180cc intake port, 64cc combustion chamber with 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves, and straight plugs

Also its paired with a voodoo cam 262/268 so I'm liking pro-filer heads

Friend of mine has Edelbrock heads, Hooker headers and says he has to use lawnmower sparkplugs.

With regard to the angled plugs, about the only thing I can think of is that if you went back to a stock look with the iron manifolds and everything else, the shielding wouldn't fit. I had no regrets.

I didn't ask you if you were using Felpro gaskets, I asked you if you were using the Felpro 1094 head gasket. It's the one that is .015" compressed thickness, as opposed to around .040" for the ones that probably come with that kit.

Also...*sigh*...angled plugs are the ones that interfere with most headers. The stock heads have straight plugs. Most headers are designed to fit the stock heads. So, you want heads with straight plugs.

I'm going to try out the speedway heads, but that's me, I'm a cheapskate, and I don't mind taking a chance. If you want a good aluminum head for a reasonable price for what you're buying, it's tough to beat the Dart SHP 180cc heads, they are about a grand for a set.
