I have a '76 C3 I just purchased and it came with a new Jasper motor. Upon contacting Jasper they not only acknowledged the engine but sent me the specs on it as well. I has 300 hp from them and at present has a total of about 2,400 miles on it. It has the stock intake on it as well. My question is , what would be the best and easiest way to pick up an additional 75 hp or so? Bigger cam and new intake? I have headers on it already but would like more HP without boring or changing heads.
My pockets are bottomless but I am willing to spend the money necessary. I really don't want to do a complete tear-down in order to make it happen.
As for the warranty, that's something I'm still checking on. I am waiting to hear back from Jasper on it. Would make the situation a little different but don't know that it would prevent me from moving forward.
The last project I did before this C3 was a Camaro with 430 hp so I would like for the Vette to be a little more powerful than the present 300.
Here are all the specs from the sheet they emailed me:
Cylinder Heads New Aftermarket heads w/76cc chambers
Need to know the manufacturer. They have 1.94 1.50 valves and 76cc chambers so likely a stock replacement head. Heads are where power capability comes from. You will not add 75 useable HP to the 300 you have without a head upgrade. Your cam is fairly stout for a 9 to 1 engine. The heads are your bottleneck. You could likely get your 75 HP with a head swap to 65 CC AFR 180 Eliminators. An intake swap will help also but would be very minor with no head swap.
I would guess it is a Lunati Bare Bones http://www.lunatipower.com/Product.aspx?id=2505
This cam will perform better with more compression. Good match for higher compression you will get with the smaller 65 CC chambers on the AFR heads. I would use it and go with 1.6 rockers for more lift and new pushrods for the longer valves. A Roller will get you a little more power and piece of mind.
That's the same cam that comes with this Summit racing top-end combo. It's advertised as putting out 355 horsepower. The heads that 63 mako suggests are a bit better than the heads that come with the Summit combo, so, yeah, sure, probably 375 or close to it.
http://www.usaperform.com/street-fig...ift-p-489.html summit, crane , lunati and elgin all have this cam.... some are on different lsa and lunati rates their advertised duration differently.... there are like three major camshaft manufacturers I believe who produce almost all of the popular brands.....I remember reading an article about it.... I even posted links to it a couple weeks ago in my cam thread....(elgin had the best deal by far with the whole kit including valve seals and springs/keepers for $150.
Its a fairly good cam.. I was considering it before going with the voodoo 262 but dyno2000 gave me HP and torque numbers around 375/400# with your cam and my 64cc iron eagle heads. A bit optimistic I think but more software dyno programs are.
