Just a quick question on torque convertors. I have a 327 c.i. with a TH400 tranny, and was wondering if changing the stock convertor to an aftermarket one (B&M, TCI, Hughes) would do anything to improve acceleration and throttle response? Would increasing the stall speed (I believe stock is 2,100rpm) do anything?
Note: I have stock heads and camshaft. Gearing is 3.08
The primary differences will be lower fuel mileage in city/suburban driving and [probably] less reliability. The 400 torque converter was nearly bullet-proof.
With 3.08 gears and a stock engine, changing the T/C is not likely to do anything good for you, IMO.
stock is about 1500- to 1800 i wouldnt go over 2200 with stock cam and those gears
I don't think that's correct for the older c3s I've been told my 74 had a 2000rpm converter as a stock unit..... they used smaller converters later with the th350's I believe.
Hopefully someone can verify that because I,m swapping engines soon and can really use a 2000 converter for the voodoo 262 cam I'm using.
