Default it never ends

just put an evaporator and drier in my 81. check this out. went to attach the comp. cut off switch and the nipple is not long enough for the switch to seal with the o ring. doesn't really look like there is even room for a ring. i talking with the company I got it from. I hoping there is some kind of adapter to solve this. I sure do not want to tear this all out again. any suggestions!!!!!!!!!!!!! been trying to attach a pic but can't seem to get the pic to upload

on an 81 there is no nipples on the drier. they are on the line from the evaporator to the drier. they do look like the nipples on your drier pics

a little update on last post. the nipples are like your drier pics but not as long. you have the pipe and then just the threads. can't figure out why my pics will not upload. that's why I bought a membership.

My guess would be that they put the wrong service ports in the line. I don't think I have ever seen an adapter like what you need, but I have never looked for one... a quick search on the net produced no joy

thanks for your help. I agree it is a factory defect. will be talking to corvette central tomorrow. boy, I sure hate to tear into all this again. had the box all sealed and painted and looking good. at least I know the secrets to getting it apart without too many vulgar words. I should have caught this before I put it together. oh well live and learn.

So on your new line, does the switch even start onto those threads. The new ones look larger that the fittings on the old line.

If it does fit those threads but won't screw on far enough due to the hex portion hitting the pipe, have you considered cutting some of the hex portion off to get it to go down far enough? There is an o-ring in the bottom of the switch female threaded hole I'm guessing?

wont work. no o ring down in switch. o ring goes at bottom of thread on port and switch slips over it. might have found a switch that might work. ac delco 15-8573, gm14080615. think this will work if it is right pressure. what do you think? thanks for posting cause I sure don't want to take the evaporator out. corvette central said they would return my money

Are you sure you have no other ports on the low side? I looked on the corvette central and they offered an accumulator with a port and one that doesn't show one, you could just replace the accumulator with one that has a port. Check out the low side system, from the orifice tube to the compressor for another port.

This is a low pressure switch right? It looks like your right above the low press charging port. So there should be another switch somewhere on the high press side of things (smaller diameter line or on the pump itself).
So it is only responsible for not allowing the compressor run if freon or pressure is too low.
This being true I would be inclined to try a switch that will fit it. You might want to do some research to see it the specs are similar or the same between the two switches if possible since not all low press switches have the same specs. The switch your replacing is it from a 134A or r-12 system? Are there some identifying numbers on it so that you can look it up? The low press switch baisically completes the ground to let the clutch engage and run the compressor.
I'm no expert on car refrigeration systems, but have messed around with them plenty enough to get the job done. I'm with you I would rather get a switch to fit than uninstall and re-install another evaporator that may well have the same issue.
Before that though I would find a way to plug that port and vacuum down the system to make sure your new stuff doesn't have additional problems like leaks.

I bought the accumulator that did not have any ports for that is the way the old one was. my mistake. only other port is on the line from orifice tube to condenser which I think is high pressure. all I want is a switch that seals on the end of the port and not on the bottom. the accumulator would be easier to change than evaporator

Yes, that would be high pressure.
Try these folks. They might have what you need.

This part says it opens at 28psi and closes at 29. That's plenty good for any 134A system. Don't know how it seals though.

might have found answer to my problem. haven't tried it yet but seems like switch will seal on this. only trouble is I will not have a schrader valve in it. will need to recharge if switch needs to be replaced.

its a refrigerant charging valve. has a small nylon bushing inside that comes out. think you could even tap it for a Schrader valve but am not going to mess with that. if ever I need to replace switch, I will need to re-charge system. got my fingers crossed.

Let us know how it comes out. Other people will probably run into the same issue.
