I replaced all the lamps in the gauge clusters when I redid the interior last week and now the gas light is always on. At 4am I did not have the foresight to test the cluster before I closed it up so now I cannot be sure where the problem lies. The lamp was possibly burned out before but I would like to eliminate the gas level as the problem before I re-open the gauges.
Always check your grounds, but it sounds like the small circuit board behind the gauge that controls the light may be bad. Our supporting vendors, like Willcox, have replacements and may even be able to help diagnose the issue.
Lol, the gas gauge itself works perfectly, as well as the rest of the gauges in the cluster. Is there anything I can do to easily check the float in the tank? I'm not sure what controls the gauge and what signals the light to turn on, I haven't looked at the circuit diagrams for that system yet.
I lost or broke or found melted several lamp sockets, so I will be going back in to replace those and can check into the light more at that time, but if there is anything I can do to check the other end first I would be very interested.
