I'm curious where you all have speakers in the car. I'm building a box that will have 6x9's, and I cannot decide if I want to replace/use the speakers in the dash or put 6" rounds in the kickpanels. Also, do you have subs? if so, where? the box I'm building is only going to be about 11" high, with a tray for the T tops above.
I replaced the dash speakers and couldn't be more happy. They sound better than the stock ones and will last longer than the stock ones could ever hope to. I also put 6-1/2" rounds in the door where Bubba placed his Jensen Co-Axials 20 years ago, but if the holes hadn't been there, I would have used the kick panels for more up-front sound. I also built a cabinet for 6x9's in the rear, but I am very disappointed with the sound - since I wanted the cabinet to be narrow enough that I could still put the tops back in there, the bass response is very poor. No room for a sub-woofer in my plans, but I would love to hear how anyone else might have done it in an unobtrusive way, if it is possible...
4X6's in kick panels and 4X10's in rear. I used some 3/4" cabinet board to make a shelf to sit on top of the rear wheel wells to set the speaker boxes on. Still have room under it to put the T-tops (or other stuff) when running around.
I put 4X6's in the dash (Clarion Pro Audio) and some Jensen 6X9's in rear with a Bazooka tube that's removable if I need the space. Want to change the Jensen's to Pioneer's though as they DO sound better.
4x6's in the dash and kick panels, a custom box with 6.5 rounds and a 8" sub at the rear. It was tough with the convertible, but managed to squeeze everything in.
I have two polk audio EX346 in my dash and an additional two added to the kick panels. The radio sounds good even with the tops off and windows down. Now if I only had a more powerful radio.
Very sweet setup, Armstrong, but it doesn't look like you can get the tops in.
I had the same problem. Bought a raincoat canvas top. Very convenient.
I was sick & tired of the wire mess & all the caps & batteries
Here's where I mounted my front speakers. I knocked the voicecoils out of the stock speakers, removed the cones and put tweeters in the stock speaker frame.
Removed the entire stero crap, couldn't hear it anyways ;)
