I'm picking up my bare 350 sbc friday. Im making another thread because i dont want to clutter my build thread. After I disassemble it and it gets machined, whats the best bottom end for my needs?
Im going with 64cc heads and 262/268 cam
I will be running 91 oct
Also need to know the kit so I know if I need it bored. Decided to buy new instead of off cl.
Slow down. You say you have a Lunati cam, is it a small base circle cam? I would be concerned that you are looking at stroker kits with larger rode and you are going to have clearance issues with a stock cam.
See some previous threads about Eagle quality, they have had their problems with crank journals not being sized correctly.

Have you already bought this cam? It may be available in small base circle. You can also call eagle and ask if these rods are stroker clearanced for a standard cam, if so its a non issue. Your call on the eagle kit, they sell plenty. Just have machine shop check if over well. That is also a one piece rear main seal kit, are you using a newer one piece seal block?
Matt, I can see your eager to do this and want a good result. Fact is though your not focused enough to get the result you want. You need to have some good basic understanding of what your goals are and how to reach them. In order to do that it's best to educate yourself as best as you can before you bolt stuff together and end up with something you didn't want.
I would recommend you stop where your at and buy these two books.
These will teach you what to look for in performance and how to get what you want out of your build. Believe me, take the time to do your homework and you'll save yourself tons of problems down the road. There will always be small details to ask about and this is where the forum comes in handy. Everybody wants to help, but everyone has a different opinion on what "good" performance is. Figure out what it means to you and then work towards that with some knowledge gained from these books. They are easy to read have lots of graphics and pics to show you what to look for and how to go about things.
I was just Thinking that the 383 stroker kit would be a good start because if I could have any sbc In my corvette It would be a 383. So why not build one?
Just a word on Eagle cranks - I know Scat is currently more popular but my 383 has a cast steel Eagle crank, internally balanced with 2 piece seal. It has held up fine after close to 200 runs and 8k miles of street driving.
Which ever you choose I would have the machine shop inspect the crank. Personally I would select an internal balanced kit with forged pistons, might be overkill on the pistons but the hypers do not tolerate detonation very well. I would target the 9.50-10.25:1 range for your pump gas, depends on your cam specs.
Ok so the best bet is to get compression in that range on 93 oct and get an internally balanced crank 2 piece. Ill look for something like that and get back. I would love to build a 383. Mine as well build one now instead of doing a mild 350 then still wanting a 383
