Got caught in the rain couple days ago and when I turned the wipers on they didn't work. After getting home I lifted the hood and tested. Turned on the key and they worked perfectly. Went for a ride yesterday and they didn't work again - wasn't raining tho, just decided to test them. Got home and same thing again. It was then that I discovered that when I turn on the wipers they only move about a half inch when the metal upper frame on the passenger side wiper that holds the washer hose catches on the hood lip and they will not move any further. Upon checking it looks like they are as flat against the window as they will go so I don't know what to do. Is there some adjustment on them that I need to make?
Check the gap where your hood meets the fenders and see if the hood is sitting lower than it should. Also check the gap up front, maybe your hood should be adjusted towards the front. Not sure if there is an adjustment on the wipers to make them lower.
Yea, thats what I thought it probably was but the gaps all look straight and good and the hood at the windshield edge sits even with the fenders, maybe even up just a hair. I thought about adjusting it there but I don't want it to look stupid with it sitting up higher than the fenders. I think rather than that I would remove the bracket for the washer hose and not have one.
Hi bld,
Does your car perhaps have replacement blades that are holding the wiper arm away from the windshield surface a little further than the originals did?
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan
Now, I hadn't thought of that. The wipers are, in fact, new so I will have to look at that. They are the ones on the car when I got it about a month ago. If you clear them by hand past the edge of the hood they will work great but once they rest on the bottom stop they will not go again without catching on the lip of the hood. I'll check and see of maybe another type of blade will set them lower.
