Retrosound model 2

put a modern din unit with a new bezel in
i bought a customauto sound usa630 unit first, was shipped downunder.. didnt work,

they then sent me a replacement board, installed as per instructions,
still didnt work,
sent it back, they exchanged it, got it back,
still didnt work properly
in the bin it went
then bought a period correct looking unit, the one most vendors sell for 595$
was broken in the box when it arrived, dial needle missing, **** shafts loose, clunking from inside.

sent it back, they exchanged it, got it back,
still not happy with it.
it distorts badly over 1/2 volume,
and as you know it needs to be loud with the roof n window out on a 72.
i have just left it there in the dash,
and use a cheap amp under the dash with mp3's on my S4 phone
just my take on the whole radio/stereo thing
This happens especially when the wheater gets bad.
I have painted the PCBs inside, thought moisture could be the reason.
But it didn´t help.
And the connectors on the backside are so bad! I have bent all pins to have a propper contact.
it goes inline of the antenna and broadcasts on a set of user selectable (usually) local frequencies. the only time this is a prob is in VERY dense radio spectrum in big metro areas. Personally I have never had an issue with it. The newest models even disconnect the antenna when it senses input so even this issue is negated.
They have a variety of inputs, usually RCA or 3.5mm just plug them in and they work. set a radio preset to that freq and be done with it.
I used this for years and years in previous cars.
Do not confuse this with an FM modulator that broadcasts over the air on a freq. these may work sometimes and sometimes dont. however they are usually cheap enough you could try it and not be out much. Maybe $20 tops.
for me I wanted a little more integration but when I found my bezel was broken I didnt care about originality and bought a single din bezel. $100 JVC media player on amazon and when everything gets here I should have some decent tunes. It doesnt have, nor do I want, a cd player or cassette player. it plays AM/FM, any USB enabled device including thumb drives and memory adapters, and has an AUX port. All on the front face in easy reach. It also streams via bluetooth and has handsfree for the phone.
I did not find any radio that appeared original that had all these features for even 3x that money.

edit: pick one

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
BTW the vender that advertises here has a $50- 80 markup over all the other retailers hoping to take advantage of members here who aren't very computer savvy it seems.
There are refurbished models for around $140 on eBay.... I bought mine new and now wish I had bought a refurbished one since at least then it would have been properly tested....

Apparently these newer units are much improved over the old ones...

I added a speaker box to rear with fresh set of 6x9's and kept the coax front speakers.
Oh what a feeling!!!
For USB with mp3s, have to keep the file names short, without odd characters, or it won't recognize them.
For the Ipod, I have version 3 (the one with the microphone) and the jack is slightly different (4 rings instead of 3 IIRC), doesn't handle that well.
