Default best mufflers?

Hi guys,

I'd like a better V8 sound at low speeds on my '69 SB. It's okay for conversing when cruising at 70 but it's too quiet for city driving. I wouldn't like to be driven mental on a long trip, but I'd prefer to hear more of the characteristic V8 sound. Which are the best mufflers - Magnaflow?

Thanks, Barry.

I like Pypes Race Pro mufflers, nice deep sound at idle and while cruising but pretty loud when you step on it

It might be easier to find walker/dynomax turbo mufflers in the UK, don't know, but they are a good sounding muffler too.

I installed a set of Magnaflows on my Vette. I like the way they sound. You can't see 'em but sure can hear 'em.

I have flow master series 40 delta. To loud at cruising for my liking but with the wind can't hear anything anyway.

Went from the Flowmaster 40's which sounded great but left my ears ringing after a long freeway drive.

Switched to Magnaflows which sound great at idle, but more mellow. Get loud with the go pedal but freeway driving is very comfortable.

I have Dynomax Ultra Flos, which are a similar design to the Magnaflow. I would recommend either, and second the comment by DDawson.

I installed the Corvette Central complete (w/ factory exhaust manifolds) 2 1/2" dual sytem with Magnaflows and thought they were a bit too loud on the highway. So I had an H pipe welded in and now it's fine.

I had cherry bombs on my first 74 vette ...I was a teen...hee hee

several neighbors told me they knew when I cranked her up in the garage to leave for work.....in the quiet of the early morn

problem was they lived two or three streets over from my parents house.

lord knows I loved that car......had so much fun.......and lived to tell the tale

I hope you have better luck with the fit of the pypes system than what I did. The X pipe hits the seat belt bolts and the whole system didn't fit very well plus I didn't like the idea of a mandrel bent system for better flow and then they go and crimp the X pipe. I sent it back and ordered the magnaflow X pipe system which fit really good I only had to bend the hanger slightly at the muffler to get the pipe to center in the rear bezel.

Default Magnaflow mufflers

Hi Guys,

Thanks very much to all of you for your advice on the best mufflers. It seems most of you prefer Magnaflow, so I phoned up the UK branch and asked about the best ones for the Vette. The part number he gave me is 11214. I've still got the original ramshorn exhaust manifold with two inch pipes, so it might mean having to also replace the pipes, and maybe fit headers at a later date. You can listen to examples on You Tube, but you never really know how they're going to sound, so it's been useful to hear the opinions of the forum members. I'll also check out some of the others you mentioned.

Regards, Barry.

Thanks, I actually just recently test fit the system, tightened everything up and it fits pretty well. Yes, its not 100% level/straight but its nothing big. Not sure what you mean by crimping the X pipe, it looks to me like the x pipe still offer more than 2.5" of passthrough between sides.... here take a look:

Anyway...Ill let you guys know what the RacePros sound like once back on the road

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c3-g...project-6.html

...Looking at it more I think I see what you're talking about... but very minimal reduction in inside diameter at those bends
