Default Steering rebuild problem

I rebuilt the control valve and cylinder for my body off project but then went with the Borgeson conversion. So, I decided to put the rebuild parts on the other 1980 Corvette since the PS pump was leaking. I replaced the pump, hoses, and tie rod sleeves.

When I started it without tires the steering wheel went all the way to the right by itself. I can pull it to the left but it really makes the pump groan. I double checked the shop manual and I'm pretty sure the hoses are right between the cylinder and the valve. I'm guessing I didn't get the ball valve or spring in right during the rebuild. Any ideas, suggestions, or advice?

Mike

You have to balance the valve, do a search or check your manual.

Turn the control valve until the cylinder extends all the way out and count the turns it takes to retract the cylinder and divide the turns in half and adjust. Make sure the cylinder is completely disconnected and is able to move freely.

Thanks guys. I remember that step now that I watched the video again. I was so anxious to get everything back together to take it in for alignment that I completely forgot. I was just sure I had screwed the rebuild.
