alternator bracket bolt busted
Had an issue in the past where the bolt on the alternator on my 74 that screws into the cylinder head busted. I had thought nothing of it and decided to buy a grade 8 bolt instead thinking that this would fix the problem. a few months passed and recently i noticed the bolt busted clean. Its the original mounting bracket and I am thinking I need to get a different one. I believe they sell aftermarket ones. It could be with the way the old one is designed that all the stress is being put on this bolt. Has anyone else had this problem? The engine was rebuilt using one of the Trick Flow Top End Super 23 kits so the positioning of the alternator is slightly different than the with the original heads.

Something must really be something putting the bracket in a bind to break bolts like that. Without a picture of the setup it is hard to make recommendations, but it sounds like there needs to be additional bracing of some sort to take some of the stress off the bolt that keeps failing.

Are you running an aftermarket alternator or is it stock? Several years ago, I installed a Powermaster chrome alt. The alternator's fan was out of balance. The resulting vibration caused me to break several bolts before I determined the problem.
