Default 1969 Door/ Power Window Assembly Help...

Hey Guys,

Getting the car ready for paint and I'm going to need some serious help re-assembling my power window assembly when I get the car back.

I've also got to put new glass them while I'm at it and I'm not quite sure how the procedure goes to get the window installed correctly. It's pretty tough getting down inside the door with tools. Furthermore, I've got to leave enough room (temporarily to put the screws in for the window sill chrome trim and I'm not sure how to adjust the glass for this part of the operation. The window seems like it will have to go first because of the lack of room without the trim pieces.

The power window motors were a real PITA to get off because I had the glass down when I removed them and couldn't actuate them up electronically. There was just barely enough room to get a racheting box wrench on the 3 bolts that hold the motor to the gear assembly and the bolts face inward (great design). When I finally got the bolts off motor and pulled to remove it, the spring retracted the window assembly even further and nearly broke my finger in the process!! I just know that because of this spring and with the limited space available inside of the door that putting everything back together is NOT going to be fun.

On one door I have the skin off so I may be able to install the whole assembly "pre-skin" but I will have to install the other with the skin on.

Any hits on how to tackle this one??

Regards,
Rick

Hi Rick,
I believe most people do all body work and paint first.
Then start to install the window.
The 2 tracks first. (With the lower stops in place, but loose).
Then the winder/motor mechanism and arms.
Bring the mechanism all the way up. (No top stops yet).
Put the glass mounted rollers in place in the tracks and fasten the glass to the winder mechanism.
Lower the glass. (install the upper stops, loose).
Install the door top trim and outer glass seal.
Start the adjustment procedure. (The most difficult part). The access covers in the door's frame are designed to give you access to everything you'll need to get at.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Exactly! And he's got some great "team" members who know some important facts too!

I try to use the search function first/all-the-time....it's just that these guys are so much faster than filling in the search page.....LOL! (I even try to answer a few simple questions myself---to take some of the heat off of them)

My project would be a near-impossibility to complete without these guys willing to answer rookie-questions for the millionth time!
