Thinking about getting a speaker box, like the ones sold in Ecklers, Mid America, ect. Will the t-tops still fit in the rear luggage area or does the box take up most of the space? Thanks. L8TER, Paul.
I got a boom box set up ,at PEPBOYS a few weeks ago it was on sale for $29  its carpeded black, has 2 big speakers & 2 little ones, think they are tweeters ? >> its freestanding & easy to install & to remove ..........fits nice in my 1966 convertable, also got a pair of kick panel speakers from Ecklers ............sounds nice (disc player) in glove compartment...... :seeya
sorry I cant answner you question about the t-tops fitting. However the "custim bass Box" in ecklers is a stinker. Total waste of money. If you want subwoffers, or even boxes to hold 6x9 take it to a profesional stereo shop (i.e. not best buy). They will make a better product, that lasts longer, and will still be functunal for your t-tops.
Sorry - I don't know if it would fit or how it would look since you have the big back glass. You might compare my measurements to your storage area and see what you think. You could always modify the design if you needed to.
if in question, make the box suggested above out of cardboard and duct tape. It it fits, and the t-tops are usable...then wou have a winner. if not cut a little. when it does finally fit tear apart the cardboard and use it as a template.
It's pretty much a false back wall which takes up about 4" of space it's a press fit, so I can take it in and out of the car with relative ease. The Tops still fit fine, and I will still be able to mount my window tray (after cutting it down a little bit.)
The only advise I can offer is to measure carefuly and test fit it numerous times to insure that it fits properly - you dont want it sooo tight that it bulges the fiberglass, nor do you want it so loose that it falls on breaking.
I built it out of 1/2 in MDF. Take some measurements
You can easily fit your t-tops in the back w/ an press in box from Ecklers. I had one in my 74 coupe.
I also had a small amp and CD changer mounted on top of the box and they fit. Just get a set of leather cases for your tops, because they'll have to rest on top of one another.
69, Thanks for the pic. Lookin good!
74, Yes, I saw the Eckler's versions. A bit pricy though. I'm gonna check out Pep Boys today. If all else fails I'll just make it myself. Thanks, Paul.
