Well not to be the bearer of bad news, but msd filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy. This sucks and with them good luck.

That's unfortunate. I know that not everyone is a fan of their products, but I've had nothing but good luck with them. I hope they emerge intact but that's not a given.

There is an article in the November issue of Hot Rod Magazine alerting readers to the differences between fake & real boxes.

Wow, thats some bad news and left me with a fear for the entire performance industry. I hope thier product lines can continue as it would leave a big hole in the performance ignition market for quality products with years/decades of customer support.

MSD Pro Mag 44 Magnetos. The chinese are experts at copying things, they can copy just about anything made and make it look exactly like the original, problem is they don't work or they don't last very long.

The Gov. should be doing something about copying copy write/Trade Mark items, I mean if they go through the containers on ships looking for drugs they should be able to seize enough of these copies. Problem is the price to make them 1/hr in China and 20/hr here.

They should be able to copy things perfectly since they often have the original US company's blueprints and specs for almost all products. This happens when US companies contract their production in China and is often a result of intellectual theft, not just simple copying.

The US does try to protect our companies, but the sheer volume is astronomical.

Yes, MSD makes magnetos but again Taylor/Vertex have been around for ever.

Well it maybe Chinese competition or their illegal business practices. But American companies sometimes grow too much and sometimes their markets shrink. Face it, the last muscle car show u went to how many under 30 yr olds were there let alone had cars in the show? The performance industry is fighting technological advanced cars with tighter emissions controls every year. What im saying is theres less distributors needed every year as no new cars have them and the technology is too great a engineering hill to climb to make improvements.

Maybe all MSD needs to do is resize and drop some product lines,

Unless they are breaking any copyright, trademark or patent laws they're doing nothing illegal and in fact are practising the principles of capitalism that were perfected here in the west.

Does anybody have an example of a distributor that contravenes any of these laws?
