Default Trailing Arm Busing "Staking"??

I have everything ready now...T-Arms re-done, new bearing assemblies, rotors, fiberglass spring on the way, u-joints installed...you name it! But I still need to "stake" my new poly bushings in my T-Arms, and see that the "tool" sells for $50+ in the catalogs. I'm only gonna do this once! Does anyone have an "I used it once and now what?" staking tool they will sell on the cheap? Or a cheap way to do this? Suggestions welcome! Thanks!

When I bought poly trailing arm bushings from VBP, they optionally included a screw/blot cruncher tool to "stake" the bushing sleeve. You might check to see if it's available seperately.

Mine's sitting in my tool box - a buddy did mine with the "real" staking tool.

Can you take a picture of the "bolt" thingy in you r toolbox, so I'll have an idea of what might work? Appreciate it!

For the rubber bushings you need to use a 45* flare stake tool. I've seen some made from a long bolt and lug nut to compress them. I haven't installed poly bushing so I don't know if there is a difference.

I got the bolt and nut with the tapper on in that is suppose to stack the bushing but ended up making 2 plates connnected by 2 long bolts. The bottom plate is perfectly flat while the stop plate has a say 1 inch hole cut in it. Starting over . Just guessing remember. Take 2 plates about 3 inches square and heavy say 3/8 or 1/2 inch . Drill 2 holes to pass a pair of 3/8th bolts through. In the top plate cut a 1 inch hole either by drilling or a cutting torch. Now install the bushing and compress it with the 2 plates and 2 bolts. The 1 inch hole goes over the end to be staked. Place the bottom plate on a heavy steel table or hammering block, place a ball peen hammer , the round end over the end to be stakes and give it a good hit with a second hammer. This peens the end over and at the same time keeps the bushing clamped tight. It works great, costs a little bit of time but it does stake tight.

When I got my poly bushing kit from VB the "tool" was included, but there was also a multitude of thin circular shims. Their exact purpose eludes me tho as the fitment of the bushes and the end washer is straight forward. Does anyone have any ideas on these little buggers?

I think you're supposed to use those little buggers to shim the clearance between the bushings and the outer retainers.

I'll try to remember to e-mail a picture when I get home this evening. But it is simply a bolt with a tapered nut - like a lug nut - to compress/peen the inner sleeve on the outer retainer.
