Default Early C3 Hidden Headlight Issue

Just got my 1970 Corvette off the truck from Washington. (Seattle area)
I found out that the headlights do not lift open- they go on but do not lift up. I know about the two pull down- still no luck. Am I missing something?

Also what is the most efficient shop in Orange County to work on a early C3?

Thank you in advance.

Since it is a C3 I would call Jack at McJacks 714-775-2799.

Or if you feeling like trouble shooting you can use this diagram from Wilcox.

http://willcoxcorvette.com/instructi...ted_080509.pdf

This is a good place to look on this site.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot Frank! I will try McJacks!

Someone recommended a small shop called The Corvette Shop in Costa Mesa. If anyone has had an experience that would be great.

Thanks-
SD

I think the true spirit of having a C3 is to learn how to fix it instead of going to some shop to fix it (if they know how...). This will give you the "feeling" with your car. My 0.02$.

I hope I do not alienate myself, but I am not really the "fix it" kinda guy- I like to detail the car, drive the car, read the history of the car, talk about the car, but when it comes to fixing the car- not my thing unless its really simple.

This is not a particularly hard job. If the corvette shop is close by give them a try. I know McJack's work and I would recommend Him. That does not mean that the corvette shop is not good. Any other's with experience with the corvette shop?

This is just my opinion, and means nothing, but you bought the wrong car if you don't like to work on and fix problems like you are having. These are old cars and are living way past their intended life.

Good luck,
Pete

Yep- am good about that- I have the income that supports, I knew that I would have to pour in about $5K, from the looks of it $3500 will cover all I am looking for.

Not everyone that likes these cars is a mechanic...

Problem is, every mechanic likes these cars...they make them lots of cash. Did you try revving the engine while turning on the lights? I had a lazy one prior to rebuilding the actuator that responded when letting off the gas from a higher rpm.

Yes I will heed the warning about overpriced mechanics- I just went to one yesterday...he was quoting twice the cost of the parts that I can get direct from Corvette America- I will not be going back there...

Congrats on the car. As for the headlights, if you don't mind non original...convert them to electric. There is a good thread on it here

You might find that it is somewhat normal for specialty garages to mark up parts prices on top of their labour.

Keeping a 40+ year old car in top shape can be very expensive if you're not interested in turning wrenches.

It pains me when I have to outsource work on my own toys.

if I could send out the work on my car to a shop that I could trust to do the job the way I would do it and I could afford it, theres work that I would send out [trailing arms would have been no 1]nobody will work on your car the way you will.

Don't take this the wrong way, but you're trying this with the engine running, right?

Yes. I know about the vacuum being greater with the engine running. McJacks said he would fix it for $250- I believe its not even that big of an issue.

Anybody near Irvine, who has experience with a C3 and would like to get paid well for working on this Vette. PM me. I am going to do a lot of the interior pieces- new lenses, console, steering wheel, miscellaneous things like that. I know the convertible top is a different skill set, but I know there are sources that will do that separately.
