My friend who is a professional mechanic, took a look at my no longer closing headlights and ran through a vacuum check and pin pointed the problem to be somewhere in the dash, he said a switch, because there was vacuum going in and also going the the HVAC controls. Anybody know what "switch" this might be or what it is that's causing the problem?
 Thanks in advance.
The vacuum comes from the rear of the manifold (on my 81), goes thru a filter, then thru a splitter. One side goes thru the firewall to a manual overide switch that sticks out from below the steering column, then thru the headlite switch, then back thru the firewall and a black and "white" hose go forward to the lights.
I just asked the man at zip "What usually goes wrong the most in this system?" His reply..."everything!" So I ordered the troubleshooting and repair guide for $10. Let us pray. :yesnod:
I had that situation the other night,, I dove into work turned my lights off came out the next morning lights were up.  The override switch was the first thing I checked :D :D . Pushed it the lights went down. :D :D
Ryan when I pull mine down my lights go up. either you or I have the vacum lines backward. I am pretty sure I have an extra override switch if you need one.
I redid mine from scratch and cuss. So I really was not sure if mine was correct or Ryans. That may just be his problem, either the switch has gone bad or he is not giving enough time to let them come down before he pulls the switch back down thinking that it should be in the down position.
