Hey guys
I have a 72 corvette with a mildly built original motor. My question is with fitting the factory snorkel air cleaner on the carb. I bought a holley7002-1 that's supposed to be a replacement. Its a vacuum secondary and the tube from the air cleaner is hitting the side bowl which i believe is the vacum secondary portion and it hits the base. What carb will work with the factory air cleaner without beating it do shape. Should i just go with a quadrajet. Any advice is great.
Thanks. I read that post before. We were going to rebuild and tune it for my carb. My question is what will work besides the quadrajet with my factory air cleaner. I let a friend use the quad once and he sold the car before i got my carb back. Should i jus buy a refurb quad or is there a holley spread bore thats compatible with the snorkel air cleaner
Do you need to keep the original air cleaner, how about this type? Otherwise a Quad or a Holley double pumper with adaptor for your manifold or the spreadbore double pumper below.
Hi c72,
I used the Holley direct replacement spread bore for the stock q-jet on my 71 sb for years. I could never make the dual snorkel air cleaner fit because of the interference with crankcase breather tube.
For a while I ran an open style air cleaner with the metal tube removed and a flame suppressor on the end of the hose that normally hooks to the air cleaner tube.
Regards,
Alan
This is a 71 with a 70 closed distributor shield, an open style air cleaner with it's tube removed, and a Holley spread bore. The breather tube isn't hooked up.
This is the same engine with the 1 piece distributor shield, dual snorkel air cleaner, and a q-jet.
