Any one else here have to trim those metal tabs on the leading edge ?
the one on far right of my new pad is preventing the right side from fitting properly. Also, anyone have to remove metal from the left speaker bracket to get a speaker to clear the spedo housing ?
Its a 72 coupe auto w/air. I had to cut some of those metal tabs. Since owning and working on this car I have relized that direct fit parts are hardly ever a direct fit.
I had to trim the two most right tabs so the pad would sit correctly. I had bought 4X6 dash speakers years ago and just installed them two weeks ago. They sounded bad. So I went searching for speakers and picked up some infinity kappas which attach to the stock bracket no problem but the left speaker magnet touches the spedo housing. It will work though.
I replaced the dash pad in my 70 coupe and the instructions I had with the replacement part were very clear that the pad had to be heated up so it would bend and flex into the proper fit. I let the pad sit in the sun for a couple hours and it flexed and when it on the first attempt. Easy job.
