Default 81 Mirror Housing

Hi All,
I posted this before and didn't get any hits so I'll try again. My 81 driver side sport mirror has a crack in the housing, I need to know how to transfer the old glass and cables into the new housing? All responses are appreciated.

Looking into the base do you see two screws holding the head onto the base?

I called contemporarycorvette.com and just replace it completely. Than you'll have your old one for parts.

You CAN NOT transfer the manual cables.

Get a new mirror or used one.

I have tried...and will not do it because for me...doing Corvette repair and restoration for a living..wasting my time trying to separate the mirror is just that...a waste of time. I have attempted it years ago because I want to paint the mirror parts individually. I can and do paint the mirror when it is separated so I can paint the entire base and top housing...but I have to leave the cables connected and allow the mirror parts to be hanging from the cables when painted.

The way GM staked the pieces together...trying to get them separated and back together would be "fun" and having to figure out some way that would get it back together and not have a problem...would also be fun.
