Default C3 motor mount question

I'm restoring a 78 Corvette for a customer. We installed new Energy Suspension motor mounts and now the fan hits the top of the shroud.

Are Corvette mounts different than garden variety Chevrolet motor mounts?

Do the Corvette mounts mount the engine lower?

Any knowledgable advice appreciated.

Don

If you look at a site such as Napa the 70 corvette uses a different mount than the 70 chevelle but the 70 corvette mount is the same as the 78 corvette. I would check with energy suspension they also have two different mounts based on application,

Have you talked to Energy Suspension? Do you have the correct mounts from them?

I got some body mounts for a pick-up from them once. They were way too thick.

The are two types of Energy Suspension motor mounts for GEN 1 small block chevys.

The mounts are referred to as long or short motor mounts.

I have the short mounts in my 77 and everything fits perfectly with no problems.

Although, I should state that I have a Dewitts aluminum rad with the dual Spal fans so there is no stock fan and no stock fan shroud.

Hope that helps!

I did and they told me didn't have a listing for the 1978 Corvette. I got these mounts from Summit.

I'll buy another set of mounts and install them if that's the solution. I'm just trying to find out if the mounts are the problem.

Thanks for the responses.

Here is what I installed on my 71. According to their listing, they should fit 63-82?

Hi DRD57,

The link below is exactly what I purchased from Summit and they fit on my 77 with no problems. Are they the same product that you purchased?

http://www.summitracing.com/int/part...114g/overview/

Summit lists them as suitable for 1963 to 1983 corvette with a GEN 1 Small block chevy. Pay attention to the "notes" in the description.

Are the listed dimensions for the "short wide" mounts the same as your original motor mounts? They should be.

Wonderin' now if I got the right motor mounts for my recent rebuild. When I installed everything, the fan just wiped at the top of the stock fan shroud. I had to release the shroud from its two points where it passed through the radiator support; the two tabs still 'sit' in the support but do not pass through the slots.

I used ENS-3-1120G which should be the same mounts plus a transmission mount.

The notes read the same:

"Notes:Kit includes early style "short and wide" motor mount that measures 2 5/8 in. between the ears and 1 3/4 in. tall to the center of the through bolt hole and polyurethane mount for automatic transmissions."

That is a possibility. I'll measure the one that's in it and the one I took out to see if there's a difference. I used the Energy Suspension transmission mount too.

with the preload plates (flat steel plates supplied with new mounts) it raises the motor and trans about an 1/8-3/16ths of an inch or so, found this out when i swapped them out in my 71 chevelle and was hitting fan shroud!!!
lay a stock motor mount and a ES mount with the plate under it flat on a table and you can see the height differance!!!
