if you are building a motor, you may want to read the 3-94 Hot Rod article, page 70.
They gained 9 hp from 3500-6000 on a 414hp SBC,
and cut blowby by 20%
i'm going thru my old mags; saving good articles;making the trash man happy with the rest :hat
Re: Zero gap 2nd ring dyno test(old HR article) (drives61)
Thats some big money for the rings though. I looked into them when building my motor and at 100+ for file fit Zero Gaps it was just to much to stomach for 9 horseys when its much easier to make that up in other areas.

subboz
i agree. i'm too cheap too!
But, i did buy speed-pro file fit rings.
The above test used .018" top ring gap. i used .012", so when warmed up, my top gap is maybe .001-.002"
To convince me, they would have to re-test with a .012 gap.
Also they did normal rings on the first dyno, then zero's after 10 more runs. Some of the gain could be from breakng in. I would need to see a re-test with the normaal ring AFTER the zeros.
Recently there is conflicting data showing more power with a WIDER 2nd gap
Whenever  i spend less!
I posted the info so somebody could look it up, and form their own conclusion, which could vary for sure :smash:
Re: Zero gap 2nd ring dyno test(old HR article) (drives61)
Warm gap of .001-.002 YIKES! You got more nerve than I do.
That would ideal if you could be sure it would get no smaller.
End gap butt is an unpleasent situation :smash: I can attest to that personally :jester
