I finally got my car on the road with a new ZZ4 and Hedman Headers.
Friday I'm going to the muffler shop to have the headers hooked up to the 2 1/2" Ravin mufflers I had put on last year. I am interested in the increased performance you supposedly get from on "H" pipe but I don't want to muffle the sweet sound the mufflers now give me.
Any body with experience in this area please advise.
Thanks,
Yep! :yesnod: It helps balance the pressure between both pipes and will increase power/torque. The exhaust note will be deeper, have less resonance and get rid of that raspy sound.
It will muffle the sound a little but give you some more torque in the lower rpms.I`m still working on my X pipe. This must be the the biggest PITA i`ve discovered so far.... :smash:

it may be a PITA but once you get it in you will love it. everyone i know who has an X pipe seems to be very happy with it. I would recommend an X over an H.

Exactly...My car sounds Fantastic......I wanted an x but we could not make it fit without hanging too low
Some shops will want to put in a smaller diameter pipe between the two main tubes. I am not sure if this helps power, but you may want to be ready for the question when you go to the shop.
I would go with the X pipe, it will flow better, if you think about it a 45 degree angle in the X pipe makes it flow better and easier compared to the 90 degree angle of the H pipe. I will be putting headers and an X pipe on my '77 at the end of the month. But, an H pipe is definately better than no balancer at all.
Signguy-- An X-pipe is exactly what it says, the two exhaust pipes cross through each in the shape of an X, it does the same job as an H pipe, but flows a little bit better and of course is different shaped.

Good luck getting it to fit properly .....3 exhausts shops could not make it work for me....but the H and 2.5's are GREAT FLOWING

Did you have any problems fitting it to your '70? May look into fabricating an X in the fall.
OK, Should the H-pipe be the same Dia as the exhaust pipes or should it be a smaller Dia? If smaller how much smaller EX: 2 1/2" Pipes with 2 1/4" H-pipe?
Please explain
Thanks
I had to do some transmission work on a Vette with an H-Pipe. We had to cut the exhaust to allow access to remove the trans. Make sure that the h-pipe does not get in the way of rear leaf or trans work later on. I have seen the h-pipe with bolted flanges so the exhaust can be moved for future repairs........
Well side pipes don't have H or X pipe and they still run good, but the if an H pipe will increase power, good, get it. Now would it be anygood to put an H pipe in a side exaust, doesn't matter how the hell it would be possible, but would it increase power?
