i don't have either on my vette (yet) but i remember reading awhile ago back in a popular hot rodding mag that the best place to install an H pipe is at the hottest spot behind the collectors. they marked a long length of the exaust with a crayon, drove the car around, and checked to see whichever spot the crayon melted the most- that's where they installed the H pipe. it wasn't on a vette (i think a chevelle) but the article said it can apply to any car. anyone else ever hear of that??

Alwyn678----- yes, you're right exhaust shop does say it's hard to fit a 3 inch X pipe on a vette, but a 2.5 inch X pipe should be fine.

Where's the proof that a balance pipe increases torque? I've never seen it. I've never seen it lower performance, that's for sure. I've seen dyno comparisons w/ a very small difference but attributing it to the H-pipe is guessing IMO, it could be due to something else. It certainly mellows out the sound.

I ran w/o a H-pipe and this was the result: :)

A few months ago, in Car Craft magazine, they tested open headers, an X pipe, and an H pipe. The X pipe won, even over the open headers(which are usually way to loud to be street legal). I'll see if I can dig up the article and post it.

SNW Vette put an X pipe on his 2002.
at 6000 rpm back pressure went UP  from 6 to 7 PSI!

and he did not like the sound.

He took it off!

Everything else points to using it, but :cuss
