My wifes 78 had the same problem. I unplugged the stuff that didn't work but had power going too it. The clock and the alarm system relays under the center console. She can leave the car for months now and it starts right up. It was the alarm.

A common problem is the courtesy light timer going bad. Not only will the courtesy lights not go off after 20-30 seconds like they're supposed to, they'll also come on at odd times. I found that out on the '78 I used to own when letting the dog out in the middle of the night and saw the interior lights on in the car.

I'm not saying that's definitively your problem but it's a good place to start looking. As I said...it's not an uncommon issue.

If you don't find a problem after your investigation, and the car isn't a daily driver I recommend a battery disconnect. My 70 (clock)will kill the bat. in a week. Once installed a couple of turns an the battery is isolated.

Regards
Pete

I second PEteL46 plus the disconnect is a valuable aid to prevent electrical problems from ruining your car when it is unattended. Lots of 'Vettes have this.

Band-aid solution at best, buy a $10 trouble light and troubleshoot the circuits by removing fuses one at a time till you find the bad one.
