1973 w 225/70/15 on rallys. front left tire barely rubs the heads of the steering box bolts when the wheel is turned full left. all bushings, tie rod ends, wheel bearings etc new. RF tire has 3/4" clearance on the frame when the wheels turned full right. its time for new tires(long past actually), and i was curious if i should have the alignment checked before replacing the tires, or after. any other easy things to check that may cause my problem? it is possible the frame is bent, while there are no welds or cracks ive found there is fiberglass damage on the front clip.
after i rebuilt the front suspension and steering i had the car aligned at a local shop, but i was considering taking it to Tonys down in Gaithersburg Md but wanted to see if i should get the new tires first or take it down there w the old ones.
Same size tires on my 69 (BFG T/A's) and the left side just rubs the heads on the box bolts. The alignment is right, it's a no hit car and all steering and suspension parts are new. I don't worry about it as I think the tires are slightly wider than the original Goodyears. I just don't crank it up against the stop.
