Some of the most important things I have ever learned were from mistakes I made. So, keep up the good work!

My wife's Dodge from the factory has the tranny cooler separate from the radiator with no temp bypass.

I also use a TruCool tranny cooler, 45,000btu in my van, pretty large by most standards.

Like I said earlier, it appears that Chrysler/Mercedes started using the external air to air tranny cooler once Mercedes took over Chrysler in the 2000's-don't know if they are still using that method to cool tranny fluid but my 35 years of using that method has proven to me that it is the way to go in most cases. I have a 28,000 GVW Double Stack Tru Cool in the garage ready to install in my 2008 Chrysler 300-probably spring before the summer. The plan is to cut both lines going into the AC condenser (Chrysler uses the lower portion of the condenser OUTSIDE of the main airflow) and to mount the LONG cooler in more direct airflow. The reason I am planning on not using the factory AC condenser for additional tranny cooling is that there have been reports of ATF leaks developing from the A/C condenser coils requiring replacing the whole A/C condenser and recharging the AC system. The 28,000 GVW Long cooler will easily handle lowering the ATF temp sufficiently that the tranny runs cool. I will report on the temp it runs when in installed if anyone is interested.
