The tally so far, most switches are functionally backward or simply don't work.
Intermittently, the temp guage pegs right when the headlights are on.
Newest.. Driver seat controls are now DOA (they worked a few days ago) and the hazards don't seem to work.. Question of the day. the inner red lights (with the reverse lamps in them) are they also red lamps or are the outr lamps the only ones that Light?
Speaking of elec nitemares...can anyone tell me the route of the two wires that go to dome light ? Seems they may go down behind pass. and to console? But I can't see wires of that color under the console. Both overhead contacts seem to be grounded. That won't work. Thanks

The dome light wires are orange and white. They are part of the harness that runs over the drivers head, down along the seat, along the kick panel and plug into the dash harness near the fuse box.
Markm; The outer solid red taillights work with the running lights, brake lights, turn signals. The inner red/white lights only work with the back-up lights. As for your other problems you should check the grounds at the rear of the left frame rail, at the left kick panel under the dash, and at the radiator core support to altenator. Also the battery cable ground from the battery to the frame.

I'm thinking the problems are Bubba inflicted. the idiot who owned the car before me chaisawed the dast to put an oversised JVC cassette deck in. I will not be surprised to find cut/shorted/whatever wires when i yank the thing out

Markm10431, I also had the same problem. The temp guage was fine in the daytime, without lights. But at night, it pegs. Scared the  out of me the first time it happened.
The fix is easy, and costs nothing but your time. I pulled the whole center gauge assembly. The problem was that a Bubba had been in there before, and disconnected the harness that goes to the gauge assembly. In doing so, the traces on the circuit board had peeled up. When the harness was re-connected, two of the loose traces were shorted together. One trace was for the dash lights, the other for the temp guage. After correcting this, the problem has not come back.
The best solution is to buy a new circuit board. But, only if you have the extra $120.
MARKM I had the same problem as you and Shotgun. I just pressed the connector to the back of the gauges and problem was solved. It seamed the wires have taken a shape over time and had pulled away from the circuit board. This re - occurs maybe once a year and It's gotten to the point that I can put my hand through a free space just above the passenger floor without removing anything and press the connector and problem is solved within seconds if it ever re - occurs.
