My drivers side wiper over runs the glass and scratches up the stainless window trim, and stainless lip.
It seems to be fully against some sort of stop at the bottom of the windshield when it is parks. Not sure if that stop is factory, or Bubba.
How do I fix this problem? The wiper only seems to run in fast, but until i get this problem of it banging up the window trim fixed, i try not to turn it on to evaluate if it really just does go only in fast mode
I figured out how to remove the wiper door, as an assembly from some other threads, so that will be coming out for cleanup, and paint on the underside. It is pretty gross under there, nobody ever paid any attention to it, flaking multicolored over spray, buffing compound, dirt, etc..
I see some foamy looking black goo, on the bottom of the wiper well, that seems to be used to hold the washer hose into position; as that goo has two different color oversprays on it, what would be a good choice to replace it with if i remove it during wiper bay cleanup? I am replacing all the washer hoses, so it will need to come out
Not necessarily going for NCRS judging (yet), but I want it too look as original as possible.
IF you are certain the blade on the right/pass. side is fully seated when off, and the door closes normally, I suggest you put on a shorter blade on that side, anyway....sounds like someone put on too long a blade assy....
damn shame today how we can't buy just the rubber insert and have done with it, NO, have to buy a 15+ buck complete wiper assy....and I suspect that's what happened....
If you have the AIM, it gives you instructions on wiper arm adjustment.
Off the top of my head, where the wiper arm assemblies attach to the wiper motor there are two bolts/nuts that allow you to slide the arms in/out to desired sweep.
16" long blades is what i have. 15" would still scar the stainless, even 14" would still hit it, but not over run the side of the car.
16" seems to stock size.

Seems odd, in that if the blades allow the door to close all the way nice and straight/pretty I dunno how you getting it so wide on the throw.....
there is a vacuum switch on the pass side, down lo against the glass, and if that arm don't activate that switch, the door can't close, and the arm has to be in position/Parked to do the switch....
IF the arm is not totally parked, the door will jamb on it, say if the switch was not adjusted correctly, it has 2 bolts on it with slots to allow it to move up/down on the cowling....
There is an adjustment provision for sweep stop on the wiper arm itself. A small slotted screw as I recall. Willcox has an excellent diagram and instruction sheet for adjusting the sweep stop. Check it out. Unless you (or a PO) have had the arms apart and re-assembled incorrectly), this will be one of the easiest fixes you will encounter.

Helps a bunch, thanks!
Now, about that goo holding the washer tubing in place, if any body has answers there....

Hope this helps...
Yes, I had to go out and look at my '72, and so the adjustment dont LOOK to easy to get at with the wiper door in place....lovely kettle of fish....pulling them 4 bolts is a PIA....
Hi,
Here's the screw that red roadster mentioned.
It adjusts how close to the a-pillar ss trim the wiper sweeps.

Alan
Alan, I"m getting weirded out here, I looking at my '72, and can NOT spot that screw, it looks as if it's on the pass wiper arm, shown in the parked position..??
or somehow maybe my synch adjustment on the motor output lever is of a different type than shown....last sentence is grasping at straws....

You may not have the correct wiper arms on your car.
Hi,
That screw was on both of the original wiper arms. Revi's thinking is probably right.
The AIM indicates the screw should be adjusted until the tip of the wiper blade is 3/4" from the ss a-pillar trim.

Alan
What is the AIM, i want to research more. My passenger side wiper sweeps way past the windshield surface and I noticed that the blade arm is loose(it has play in it). Looks like the blades are bosch replacement.
