I need to change out the speedo gear in my transmission in my 69 4sp how hard is it to do. I have heard that you do not want the plastic gear to fall int the transmission does anybody have some instructions how to change it out.

The driven gear is easy. Right side rear of the trans, remove the cable and the 1/4" bolt (7/16 head) that holds the "bullet" in the trans. Rotate and pull gently and the bullet will come out. If you're really concerned with the gear falling into the trans, use a small needle nose pliers and hold onto it. You can see the end of the gear on the center of the bullet. Just don't use the pliers to pull the whole thing out.
