Finally hit the street with a working speedo (transducer bad) and tach reads 3000 rpm at 55 mph. Approximatly what gearing does this 77 have? What were the rear-end options for the L-48? Any enlightenment would be most appreeciated... :chevy

Seems like 3.55 gears or maybe a little lower.

What size tires do you have on the back? I would really need to know this before I could make any guesses.

I agree. I have 4.11's with 255/60VR15's on my '77 and 3000 rpm is 60 mph on my car.

For comparision I just installed 373's and replaced the tranny gear with a 22 tooth gear. At 3000 rpm in 4th it's 70 mph, 3500 rpm =80 mph,
2500 = 55 mph
225-70x15 tires

Probly a 4.10 depending on your tire size.

When you know your tire size, go to smokemup.com. they have all kinda neat stuff there to figure out your rear end ratios, etc. I turn 3K at 70MPH, that ='s 3.55's with my tire size.......... :D :D :D
