Default Clock wiring question.

I have a 1976 Corvette. I am in the process of replacing the clock with a quarts clock. When I got my dash apart I noticed what look like a resistor on the positive orange wire leading to the positive terminal on the back of the clock. It may be something else. It looks like a round cylinder about 1 inch long 1/4 inch in diameter. It doesnt look like its factory to me. Its pretty poorly soldered in place. Is it suppose to be there? Is there a reason someone would add one?

This is how it is wired

Thanks
Nick

I'm in the process of replacing the interior of my '76 and I did the quartz upgrade too. I don't recall seeing a resistor on the clock wires and a test of the center guages show the clock to be working just fine. The top dash pad is still not on so it will be easy enough to go take a look later today. I still need to track down the fuel sending wire at the tank so this will be a good excuse. If I'm allowed!

Thanks. I could be wrong in calling it a resistor. I will try and take a picture tomorrow.

The clock should have 12 volt power straight to it... without a resistor or capacitor. The clock connector ran out of the main wire harness.

We don't know what you've found, only what you describe. How about a pic?

That is a 1,000 micro farad capacitor but clock circuit does not use o that. Power comes straight to the clock.

Maybe they were using the wire for something else besides the clock... Aftermarket radio?

Thanks a lot for the help. Someone had put a aftermarket radio in the car at some point but the capacitor was not hooked up to it. Makes me wonder if my stock clock was busted or not. I already bought a new quarts clock and think ill stick with it. Maybe I will try to hook up the stock one to the battery to see if it works.
